Summer is here, which means it’s time to fill those warm-weather weekends with pool days, summer vacations, and lively soirees! A BBQ is the perfect summer get-together, whether you’re rounding up your friends, family, or neighbors for some fun. It can be as elaborate or simple as you want—but if you’re going to host one, be sure to do it right!

If you’re ready to plan the perfect BBQ picnic, follow our guide and get ready to party!

  1.     Choose the Perfect Location

The location of your BBQ is not just a detail; it's a crucial element that sets the atmosphere for your event. If you're fortunate enough to have a spacious backyard, that's ideal. If not, take the time to find a local park that offers the space and amenities you need. Remember to consider factors like shade, tables, and on-site grills.

  1.     Put Together a Mouthwatering Menu

The great thing about a BBQ picnic is that it’s very versatile. You can serve anything from burgers and hot dogs to ribs, steak, or grilled chicken! It’s always best to have some options for picky eaters or guests with dietary restrictions.

But don’t forget about the sides and dessert! An epic picnic requires some delicious dishes to round things out. If you’re hosting a small affair, you can quickly fill in the gaps with classic picnic sides or elevated dishes. But if you’re planning a big to-do, consider making it a potluck and having each guest bring their signature side or dessert instead.

  1.     Set up the Space

Now’s your chance to really make some magic happen. Make sure your space is picnic-ready with plenty of tables and seating for all your guests. If you have picnic tables, great! If not, don’t be afraid to pull out card tables and cover them with festive tablecloths.

To add a slightly elevated touch to the scene, opt for classic buffalo-checked cloth napkins instead of flimsy paper ones. They’ll handle sauces better, won’t blow away, and can be reused for future parties!

And don’t forget the plates! We recommend sturdy plastic plates over paper for BBQs because they do better with a full load of food.

However, if you’re hosting a more intimate affair, mini appetizer plates are a fantastic way to make your picnic feel luxe. While your guests are waiting for the BBQ to cook, you can set up a smaller table with plates and various appetizers for them to munch on.

  1.     Get the Entertainment Ready

The main focus of any BBQ picnic is fellowship and food—but extra entertainment doesn’t hurt either! If you have the space, set up classic lawn games like bocce, horseshoes, badminton, or corn hole. Don’t forget a good playlist to set the mood.

  1.     Add Some Decorations

Last but not least, decorate your space! You can't go wrong with paper lanterns if you have some trees or awnings in your space. String these along the perimeter of your picnic area and insert battery-powered tea lights to add a festive glow to your scene. If you want a casual feel, complement these with colorful streamers. If you’re going for an elevated touch, opt for fairy lights to weave between the lanterns and around your space for an extra magical touch.

Remember to add some fresh elements to your tables, too! Seasonal flowers or potted plants are the perfect way to bring that summer feel to your tablescape with minimal effort.

And you’re all set! With just five easy steps, you’re ready to treat your guests to an epic summer picnic!
