With the Olympic Games officially in swing, it’s a great time of year to get together with friends and family! A friendly gathering to watch the competitions and cheer for your favorite athletes creates the perfect setting for a party—particularly one that’s Olympic-themed!

If you want to throw an Olympic party worthy of a gold medal, we’ve got you covered! Here are some fun and easy ways to turn your house or yard into an epic event.

Iconic Decorations

First, set the scene with some Olympic-themed decorations. The easiest route is to incorporate the Olympic colors: blue, yellow, black, green, and red. You can do this with streamers, plates, tablecloths, or balloons.

But we love the easy wow factor you can create with a large circle arch covered in Olympic-colored balloons. It’s the perfect nod to the Olympic rings and so simple to put together!

Speaking of balloons, don’t forget to add some USA-specific pride to your space with mylar balloon letters (in gold, of course)!

If you want to incorporate more Olympic rings around your space, you can make construction paper chains to string up or print them out motif style to create a photo backdrop or banner.

Last but not least, if your walls need a bit of pizzazz, why not decorate them with athletic silhouettes? You can use a large roll of black paper to cut out the shapes of athletes competing in iconic sports like gymnastics, track, and more!

Gold Medal Games

What’s an Olympic party without a few friendly competitions? Be sure to set your guests up for fun with a mini-Olympics!

You can go as extravagant as you like here, but you can keep things simple with twists on classic backyard games like sprints or sack races, water balloon shot put, a long jump, or even an obstacle course.

Divide your guests into teams, keep track of the winners, and reward them with plastic (or DIY) medals.

Winning Food

Of course, no party is complete without some tasty treats! Consider finger foods or entrees from a variety of countries that are participating in the Olympics. It’s a great way to try something new and incorporate the diversity of the games into your celebration.

For desserts, add some fun little touches, like donuts in Olympic colors or cupcakes bearing the flags of different nations.

And you’re all set! With just a little planning and preparation, you can host an Olympic-themed party that’s nearly as good as the real thing!
