Sometimes, the most meaningful gifts are made, not bought—especially on Mother’s Day! If your kids want a sweet way to tell Mom how much she’s loved, nothing says it better than a homemade craft. Here are three simple ideas that kids of all ages can make at home for the perfect Mother’s Day gift!
First up is a quick and easy bath salts recipe from See Vanessa Craft! You only need five items and 10 minutes to whip up this fresh gift!
Lemon Bath Salts
- Mason Jar
- Epsom Salt
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Yellow Cupcake Liner
- Twine/String
Instructions
- Pour Epsom salt into the jar, leaving ½ inch of room.
- Pour 10–15 drops of lemon essential oil into the jar.
- Screw on the lid and shake to mix.
- Place the cupcake liner under the rim and screw the lid onto the jar.
- Tie a bow under the rim for a finishing touch!
Our second pick is these adorable pipe cleaner flowers from The Resourceful Mama. Make a few to create a unique garden for Mom!
Potted Pipe Cleaner Flowers
- Pipe Cleaners
- Buttons
- Popsicle Sticks
- Paint
- Mini Terra-Cotta Pots
- Green Crinkle Paper Shred
- Glue
- Recycled Newspaper
Instructions
- Paint popsicle sticks and allow them to dry completely.
- Twist the ends of each pipe cleaner together to form an oval. Then, twist in the middle to create a figure-eight.
- Repeat with another pipe cleaner, then glue the two pipe cleaners together to form a flower.
- Glue a button in the center of each flower.
- Glue the popsicle stick to the back of the flower.
- Fill the bottom of each terra cotta pot with newspaper and glue the bottom of the popsicle stick to the filler for support.
- Cover the newspaper with green paper shreds.
Last but not least, don’t forget a beautiful bouquet! You can make your own with tissue paper and pipe cleaners for a bouquet that will never wilt!
Tissue Paper Bouquet
- 12 Sheets Tissue Paper
- 12 Pipe Cleaners
- Scissors
- A Vase
Instructions
- Stack three sheets of unfolded tissue paper on each other.
- Starting from the short edge, fold all three sheets of paper over one inch and crease. Flip the stack and create a one-inch fold in the other direction. Continue folding the tissue paper accordion-style in one-inch segments until you reach the other edge.
- Keeping the folds together, wrap the last 1 ½ inch of a pipe cleaner around the paper at the halfway mark and twist to secure.
- Attach two more pipe cleaners to the paper in the same way, about 6 to 7 inches from the center. If you want different color combinations, alternate the direction of the pipe cleaner to change which tissue paper color is on top.
- Cut the paper into three equal pieces, leaving the pipe cleaners at the center.
- Use scissors to round the edge of each flower.
- Optional: use the trimmings to create confetti for your vase.
- Hold the stem and open each flower by pulling the top layer straight up all the way around. Repeat with the middle layer.
- Finish opening your flower by pulling the bottom layer down, then gently flip the flower and press the bottom layer toward the middle layer.
- Repeat steps 1–9 with your remaining supplies.
- Arrange your flowers in the vase and put them on display!
It doesn’t take much to create a memorable Mother’s Day gift. Your kids will love making all of these adorable crafts, and we have a good feeling Mom will love receiving them, too!
